How we keep your data safe
When you sign up for Hugo, you trust us with real details about you. We take that seriously — not as a slogan, but as how we choose partners, build systems, and run every Sunday.
Hugo Events Ltd is the company behind Hugo. We are the data controller. Your information is not for sale, and we do not use it to build a public dating profile for strangers to browse.
What “safe” means here
It means we only collect what we need to run hosted evenings well. It means access inside Hugo is limited to the people who operate the product. And it means the specialist services we rely on — payments, texts, video, hosting — are chosen carefully and kept under review, not plugged in once and forgotten.
Partners we trust — and check
Hugo does not invent every piece of infrastructure from scratch. We use established providers for jobs that demand specialist security:
- Payments — Stripe handles card details. We do not store your full card number on Hugo’s systems.
- Texts & email — services such as Twilio and our email provider send confirmations and join links.
- Live video — Daily.co powers the video dates. Calls are not recorded by Hugo.
- Hosting & database — your account data sits with providers we contract with (including Amazon Web Services in UK/EU regions).
Before we rely on a partner, we look at how they protect data, where they process it, and what the contract says about our responsibilities and yours. That diligence does not stop at day one. We keep an eye on material changes — security notices, contract updates, and whether a tool still earns its place in Hugo.
How we look after Hugo itself
We treat Hugo like a product people put their real phone number into — because they do.
- We use rigorous access control. Any time a Hugo team member needs access to customer data, a full assessment is carried out first — so your data stays protected.
- Your account is set up so only you can get in. We design access around that.
- We constantly review the parts of Hugo that handle your data, so we can keep that protection as strong as possible.
- Every new feature or change goes through a tried-and-tested process before it ever hits the live platform — so nothing ships to customers until we’ve proven it in a safe environment first.
- Security and privacy are standing priorities for Hugo. They’re active, ongoing work across the product — not a box ticked at launch and left alone.
- We constantly review our partners too. If how they handle data changes, or a stronger option appears for Hugo, we reassess and act on it.
What we will not do
- Sell your personal data
- Publish a swipeable profile of you for the open internet
- Share your number with a match unless the match is mutual under Hugo’s rules
- Pretend no third party is involved — video, SMS, and payments need specialists, and we name them in our Privacy Policy
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Start with hi@hugodate.co or the delete options in your account. Full detail sits in our Privacy Policy.
